$2,000 Unsung Heroes grant awarded to ALTV

A $2,000 grant has been awarded to Armand Larive Middle School teacher Rob Doherty by Voya Financial, Inc. The grant is part of the company's annual Unsung Heroes awards competition. Doherty's grant application was titled Video News Production - ALTV

In the grant application, Doherty stated that the objective of the program is to provide students with the technological skills needed for video production in the 21st century as well as focus on their writing and speaking skills. The grant money will be used to purchase a computer and software for video editing. With the new computer students will learn how to edit video interviews and prepare video sequences just as it is done in a prefessional newsroom. This will provide more ALTV students with opportunities to edit, finalize, and produce their own news projects the ALMS TV program.

Doherty was selected from a group of more than 1,350 applicants and was one of only 100 winners across the country. He was the only winner from Oregon. His application will now compete for one of the top three prizes: $5,000, $10,000, and $25,000 from Voya Financial.
